The first permanent occupation of Puig de Sant Andreu dates back to the First Iron Age (late 7th century BC) and that of Illa d’en Reixac to the middle of the 6th century BC.
From the second half of the 6th century, a wall with seven towers was built. During the first part of the 4th century BC, the surface area of the town tripled in size, adapting to the terrain.
Local and regional trade became important with the Punic and Greek contacts, especially the trading post of Ampurias.
The site of Illa d’en Reixac was the subject of a student training school from 21 to 25 May 2012, bringing together several European geophysics teams with Catalan archaeologists (First MAC International Workshop of Archaeological Geophysics). The maps presented here were obtained during this school and are published with the agreement of the partners.
